History in the Making

This was my first quilt I made about 6 years ago.  Did you know that in the United States quilters sent messages to the fugitive slaves, over 150 years ago, by encoding messages within quilt patterns and displaying them on a fence post, windows or clothes lines, helping them escape on the Underground Railroad.

If you have not read the book, "Hidden in Plain View" a secret story of quilts and the Underground Railroad.  Authors Jacqueline L. Tobin and Raymond G. Dobard, Ph.D.  I recommend reading this book. Not only is this a look back into the history of this country but history of quilting generations.
